Slavi Zhelyazkov tells of 1920s Sofia in the city's own slang: first a taxi driver, then the owner of a leased Chevrolet bus on the line between the capital and the mountain resort of Chamkoria. Bulgaria, ruined by the First World War, is split between the Military League, the Democratic Alliance and IMRO on one side and the United Front on the other, and white and red terror fill the streets with blood. Slavi belongs to neither camp and sees both fairly, but his work draws him into the coups, assassinations and bombings of the time. While everyday life goes on with its worries, he hides an anarchist nicknamed Dzhina and slips deeper into the shadows.
