Journalist Pavel Klimeš is divorcing and has lost his parents, and finds himself forced to look for new paths and goals. In this mood of reckoning he turns to memories of the gang of friends with whom he spent every summer as a child at the Karlovka cabin in the Giant Mountains. More and more often they feature his father's colleague Milan Knot, once his childhood hero, who in the mid-1970s hinted to his friends that he had signed up to work with the secret police, withdrew from them and stopped coming on holiday. After November 1989, Pavel finds convincing evidence of what Knot's collaboration did to others at the cabin and denounces the old family friend in the press. Twenty years later, doubts and inconsistencies appear.
