In the summer of 1964, young Moritz Schoppe spent ten miserable weeks in a small town in Upper Franconia: his engagement at the annual open-air festival on the Luisenburg turned into a fiasco, and he lost all his illusions about the theatre. Forty-four years later he returns. After some trouble finding his way, he enjoys the spicy air of the Fichtel Mountains and takes romantic walks into the Franconian past. He also visits the open-air stage where his misfortune happened, but the theatre he once loved has become completely foreign to him, and he senses that it is not the place that has changed, but himself.
