Alma and Olga are Slovenian women from Italy who have not seen each other for twenty years. After her marriage Alma moved to Asiago, while Olga stayed in Trieste, trying to get over a trauma from her childhood. Alma is not happy either: her only son Angelo has grown into a neo-Nazi who, with his friend Valter, denies the horrors of fascism and humiliates her and her language. The two women's voices, separate at first, grow more and more entwined, as if each senses the other: through dreams, through memories of a journey across Europe that return to both at the same moment, and through a secret that binds them. The past keeps coming back, both the violence of the war and private horrors.
