For a long time the sign outside said Closed until further notice, until Elisabeth decided to carry on the bakery after her husband's death, alone. Every morning she lights the oven, stirs the dough, slides in the loaves, and surprises the whole village and herself. In the same area lies Alois's farm, in the family for generations; no one asked him whether he wanted to take it over. He lives with his dog and ignores the expectation that he will start a family, but something is tightening. Meanwhile a young woman returns to the village to fetch the key to her grandparents' summer house, which is to be sold.
