When war or flood comes, people run; not Trina. Stubborn like Curon, the small South Tyrolean village where she grew up, she stands up to the Fascists who ban the German language and stop her from teaching. She is not afraid to flee into the mountains with her deserter husband. She writes constantly to her daughter, who vanished without trace, hoping her words will bring her back. After the war, which brings no peace, the building of a dam threatens to flood the fields and houses of the valley, and Trina defends herself with the one thing no one can take from her: words.
