In Bumba, the land of the Mongolian epic Jangar, everyone is twenty-five and no one grows old or dies. While Jangar loses himself in a forty-nine-day feast of youth, a challenge arrives from the distant Khan Hara, and the boy hero Hongor rides out alone. His brother Helan, who never wanted to be born, enters the world to rescue him, bringing from the womb a game of moving house that turns every adult on the steppe back into a child. Hongor, who refuses to grow up, searches for his missing brother with a game of hide-and-seek, while Khan Hara, ruling his kingdom from inside his mother's womb, makes it all part of his dreaming game. Behind them all is the bard Qi, whose tales by the fire give them souls.
