Disaster hangs over a family. The daughter fell silent long ago, and the others have adapted: the mother, a stage actress, and the son, who has hammered his door closed. Everyone craves solitude while yearning for the rest. Now and then the girl's dead father is waiting on her bed after school; she alone believes she caused his death. Her mother insists they are a family full of light, yet the girl's gloom leaks under the doors. A love so intense it could destroy them binds them all.
