Room

Dr Amelia Walsh works in the consulting room of a Christchurch abortion clinic, where protesters keep watch at the door and one woman after another takes the patient's chair, each meeting her pregnancy in her own way. Lonely, and afraid she is growing hard, Amelia has always kept out of her patients' lives. When Elena, a fifteen-year-old from Russia, misses an appointment one morning over the Christmas period, Amelia is pulled into the girl's world and has to face old memories: her long-dead parents, her ex-husband Paul and her strained dealings with the clinic's staff.
