After the international success of his opera Tom of Finland, the post-minimalist composer Alf Holm is famous. The novel goes back to his roots in a pulp-scented port town in Ostrobothnia, told by an original narrator helped by his writing teacher and, above all, by the ghost of Odin Sikström, a local composer, cyclist and tinsmith. It opens on a cold, rainy spring day in the present with a fateful event in a corner of the restaurant Terrazzo, once the meeting place of the town’s young, and reaches back to Jakobstad, New York and Vaasa in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, to the sound of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Frank Zappa. It is the second stand-alone part of a Jakobstad trilogy.
