Jura Karhu, a promising young officer of the Finnish Security Police from a big communist clan, whose odd one out he is, is sent in 1978 to find a Soviet informer at the summit of the state. Ambition leads him into a tangle of double-dealing that stretches between Finland and the Soviet Union, from embassy receptions to Siberian labour camps, and across the decades from 1918 to 2004.
