A village in East Frisia: cows graze in the meadows, flowers bloom behind the hedges of the new estate, new cars gleam in the driveways. Here, in the mid-seventies, Daniel Kuper is born, a withdrawn boy with plenty of imagination and few opportunities. Soon strange things happen: it snows heavily in midsummer, a crop circle appears, a pupil steps onto the railway tracks, swastikas show up on the walls. Daniel is blamed for all of it, and he starts a fight against the villagers, through an adolescence full of wrong turns and abysses, comedy and brutality, in the north-west German provinces.
