Three linked parts follow young people on Aalborg's drug scene during the early 1990s. In the first, Maria, 21, makes regular runs to Christiania in Copenhagen to buy hash for her boyfriend Asger, owner of two rottweilers, and is drawn to Hossein, a deserter from the Iranian army. In the second, Allan returns from years at sea with a scar from a shipboard fire and one aim: to stay clear of the life he once quit, though his past is closing in and Maja, the woman he loves, doubts him. In the third, the friends gather after Steso's fatal overdose, and the day of the wake reopens old wounds.
