Two German men, born in the same year to the same father, whom neither of them knows and who left them nothing but the dark skin that set them apart from everyone in the GDR. Their questions are the same; their lives could hardly be more different. Mick lives free of obligations, noticing the world change as absently as a new day when he stumbles out of a club, until the woman he has cheated on for years leaves him. Gabriel, who never knew his parents, becomes a successful architect, a dedicated Londoner and a family man, until he loses his temper in a trivial moment and stands accused.
