There was not enough proof to keep him locked up, so Jonathan leaves the state clinic and goes back to his ageing mother, who lives alone in a cottage among the coastal dunes. He fully intends to change, but the sexual attraction to children has not left him. The clinic sent him home with exercises to help in moments of temptation. Through a sweltering summer, the tension inside him mounts, slowly and relentlessly.
