Romania at the end of the war. On the night of 15 January 1945, a young man from the German minority in Transylvania is deported to a Soviet labour camp. 'I KNOW YOU'LL COME BACK,' his grandmother calls after him, and the sentence keeps him alive. In the camp he lives through hunger, hardship and death in unimaginably extreme conditions, told in a language that itself walks along a border. A forgotten chapter of European history comes to light: that of the Romanian Germans in the Soviet camps.
