Brandon, a young American who never felt at home in his own country, has drifted to Japan and teaches English conversation. One of his pupils is Kawamura, a man of his father's age who grew up in an era when Japan looked to America with longing, and their lessons are built around transcripts from the Apollo 11 mission. Over these sessions an unlikely bond grows between them, as two lives on very different courses briefly meet. A shorter piece set in New Orleans accompanies the title work.
