Vadim Baranov went from avant-garde theatre to reality TV and then to the side of the ruler called the Tsar, as his hidden adviser. After he resigns, rumours swirl, and eventually he confides his whole story to the narrator over a single night. His tale enters the Kremlin's court wars among oligarchs and courtiers and shows how he staged Russian politics as theatre, from Chechnya to Sochi and Ukraine.
