Franz Schlicht, a taciturn man who delivers frozen food in Vienna and unloads his goods in the country's endless cellars, is asked to fulfil a macabre wish. His customer Dr Schauer is determined to lie down in a chest freezer to die, and hires Schlicht to take the frozen body to a clearing. But at the agreed time the freezer is empty, and Schlicht sets out on a most unusual search for the frozen corpse. On the way he meets a crime-scene cleaner called Schimmelteufel, an engineer who has walled himself in, and a ministry official who collects Nazi Christmas decorations.
