Bestias afuera

Seeking ideal conditions for his research, a young agricultural engineer goes to stay on an estancia far from anywhere. Waiting for him are the old owner, nearly confined to bed, and the unfriendly woman who looks after him, with her little boy. In that isolation other presences make themselves felt: a harsh landscape, wild animals preying on the cattle, and a cruel figure whose influence hangs over the place. The author has described the book as a transplant of the English ghost story to the Argentine countryside, with its cut-off setting and a locked room, poised between the real, the symbolic and the fantastic.
