Mevaseret Zion, on the hill once called the Castel, in a cold Jerusalem winter. Noa and Amir, two students, move into a flat in Sima and Moshe's house. Moshe is being drawn into religious life, and Sima is fighting to keep her marriage and children together. Nearby, the parents of Gidi, a local boy killed in the army, try to step out of mourning and live for the son they still have, Yotam. Saddiq, whose family fled the house during the Nakba, comes back to retrieve something his mother hid there. Amir's friend Modi, travelling with no fixed home, sends letters from abroad. The private stories of love, need and loss are bound up with those of two peoples that cannot live without, or with, each other.
