Draumar á jörðu

Iceland in the first half of the twentieth century is a land of economic crisis and hard struggle, and tuberculosis, the white death, carries many away. The family on Sjómannastígur, whose colourful members first appeared in an earlier novel, meets its heavy lot with a zest for life as new hope dawns for the poor, in a story mixing historical sources with folk belief and flights of fancy.
