Gissur Þorvaldsson comes home from Norway a changed man, willing to make peace with his old enemies, the Sturlungs, after years of strife. They doubt his sincerity but are won over when he proposes that his son marry a girl of their family. A crowd is invited to a wedding feast at Flugumýri to seal the peace, but not everyone invited comes. Eyjólfur ofsi wrestles with a proud wife and his own stormy temper, and the new peace is not to everyone's liking, as the characters of the Sturlung Age step forward and speak their minds.
