The great flood of August 2002 forces the Jewish residents of Prague's old Jewish Town out of their homes, and ten men, just enough for a minyan, end up together in Mr Reich's Jewish guesthouse in Vinohrady. The youngest is fifteen, the oldest eighty, and they come from very different walks of life. To pass the long hours they tell stories and remember, and through their tales, bitter but often very funny, the senseless cruelty of the regimes that persecuted Jews in the last century come back to life. The title names the Torah portion about Noah that is read on the Sabbath.
