Karota

As a boy, Davor ran with a gang of five thirteen-year-olds in sunlit Zadar, where childhood smelled of the sea and oleanders, and also of burning, until the war changed everything. Years later, living in Belgrade, he is still haunted by hazy memories of those friends and by questions nobody has asked aloud. He sets off for Zadar with his girlfriend Nina to face that past, and with each meeting the story widens into the story of the five boys and of what happened between them, things some of them still cannot forgive, in themselves or in others.
