Alba, in her thirties, was born and raised in Helsinki, the daughter of a Finnish mother and a Romanian father. She remembers happy summers in her father’s country, but the secrets of the dictatorship years darken those memories. At her Romanian grandfather’s funeral she begins to explore her family’s story and the history of a small village shaped by earthquakes, a bride from the north and a whale that travels the world.
