Poems built on the centaur Chiron, half man and half horse, as an image of the bond between father and son. The book grew from a moment when the poet, carrying his small son on his shoulders, saw their joined shadow on a wall and thought of his own childhood with his father. Its three parts are 'Half Man', spoken from the son's side, 'Asteroid and/or Comet', after the centaurs of astronomy, bodies that are asteroid and comet at once, and 'Half Horse', from the father's side. Between a voice turned towards the poet's father and one turned towards his son, the poems weigh what a parent must be, along with love, death, identity and the nature of being human.
