Near a busy subway station in Hyeonsu-dong, three bakeries have opened in quick succession, barely a block apart. Two belong to franchise chains, and following head office's rules wears down the owners and their families until they fall ill; the third, a local shop, survives only by squeezing itself harder than it can sustain.
