Four decades after the crucifixion, Judas, by now an old man, tells the story the gospel writers left him out of. He recalls growing up as Jesus's friend, the lessons and families they shared, and the men and women who later became disciples and followers. He remembers their travels together and their brushes with Roman rule and the Temple authorities, in an unsettled time that tried faith, stamina and loyalty, when friendship turned into rivalry.
