Drift

Shortly after her wedding to the boy she fell for in her teens, Bregje storms out after a bitter argument one winter night, carrying ten years' worth of notebooks on her back. For forty days she moves between rented rooms and cheaper and cheaper hotels in Brussels, fighting the pull to return home. Rereading her diaries, she goes back over the good and bad times of the relationship, and over her childhood, her school days and her family, looking for whatever caused the split or could have stopped it. All the brooding eventually makes her physically ill.
