Nur grew up in a camp near Ramallah and trained as an archaeologist. Inside a second-hand coat he discovers a blue Israeli ID that belongs to someone called Ur. He decides to borrow that name and the face of the occupier, to see from the inside how Zionist thinking works, and as Ur he signs on to a dig at a settlement, where the earth gives up a buried Palestine and its history. The novel tracks the split that opens inside him: the blue card against the Palestinian permit, a love just beginning, a silenced story against the one that rules. Can he drop the mask before it swallows him, or will he reach a light he never expected?
