Mary P., an architecture student of twenty-three, lives under a military dictatorship; her boyfriend is an activist planning resistance. In November 1973 the police come for her at night, accuse her of subversion and hold her for thirteen days at the dreaded security headquarters, with its cells known as 'Heaven' and 'Minus Two'. Then she is shipped off with a few other female prisoners and a teenage boy to an island jail, to ready it for new detainees. There, in constant danger, they have only each other. Narrated by Mary, it is a novel about the hunger for freedom, state violence and women's solidarity, and about the flesh and its hidden changes.
