At the end of November, as the first frosts arrive, the dead body of the wife of the doctor Marek Diviš is found in the marshes on the outskirts of town. Among the inhabitants a carousel of theories, speculation and slander starts to turn, and the lives of the characters cross and snap like the power lines on the pylons in the fields beyond the town. It is a strange small-town community, a forgotten world where everyone can see into everyone else's kitchen yet lives in desperate loneliness behind the walls of the self, bound together by a longing for home. The novel loosely follows on from the author's debut set in the same surroundings.
