A teacher crouches under his desk in the staff room of a city high school, hugging his knees and listening for danger. All he wants is to get home and celebrate his first wedding anniversary with his wife, but the few dozen metres between his office and the school gate have turned into a dark and threatening road. Every step through the narrow, stifling corridors of the old building carries a risk, and the line between reality and fantasy blurs as he faces the obstacles a crumbling education system puts in his way. A wild post- and pre-apocalyptic satire, the book turns his journey into a small odyssey through the absurdities of Israel’s neglected schools.
