Angie believes real artists die at 27 and become legends, like Cobain, Morrison, Joplin and Hendrix, and the birthday leaves her with twelve months to write a book and earn her own immortality. In Prague, where she studies and mostly drinks, everything has stalled: friends, family and art. So she heads north, to a lakeside plot in Finland owned by her literature teacher, an enthusiast for Kalevala symbolism. Deep in the Finnish woods a household has swapped the city for a green, somewhat chaotic life: two parents, twin boys, a girl just learning to talk and her toy pig, Mr Piggy. Their routine wobbles when the would-be artist settles into their sauna cottage. The tale passes between four voices, one of them the pig's.
