A writer split between two eras feels at home in neither: we are at McGill in 1962 and in 2012 at the same time. The real problem lies elsewhere: on campus, a psychiatrist is carrying out deprogramming experiments on his patients. The writer's uncle, Nab Safi, knows something about it, but soon he is no longer there to tell. So begins an investigation where places, objects, memories and people collide: a mother in the Lebanese ghetto gambles her son at dice to pay her debts, an assistant runs a punch-card computer, dinosaurs return, and an old photo and a gothic swimming pool lead down into Ravenscrag, the gloomy thirty-six-room mansion. Both retro science fiction and autofiction.
