Ik kom terug

A writer's mother, frosty and closed off for decades, suddenly opens up at ninety-eight and proposes a pact: she will let him write her life if, in return, he obtains the means for a painless death. Edging towards a hundred, she feeds him boasts and fibs, yet piece by piece the truth emerges. A Protestant farmer's daughter, she scandalised her family by marrying an Indo officer of the colonial army, went with him to Java, survived Japanese internment alongside her three girls, and came back to Holland expecting a child by another man.
